From Portree, the museum can be reached;

(a) via the east coast road to Staffin (A855). Passing below the imposing Quiraing Hills, you follow the coast to Flodigarry and Duntulm. Here stand the ruins of Duntulm Castle, for centuries the residence of the MacDonalds – Lords of the Isles. The museum is two miles south of Duntulm; or

(b) taking the road west from Portree you drive north via Borve and Kensaleyre to Uig on the A87. From Uig you continue north to Kilmuir via the coast road with its marvellous views of the Minch and Outer Hebrides. The museum is about six miles north of Uig on the A855.
